Insects in Art

Lately, I've been finding myself drawn to the slightly offbeat. The ever-so-slightly-creepy object piques my interest like you wouldn't believe. And INSECTS! I detest bugs in the flesh (errr, in the exoskeleton), but when incorporated into art, I'm totally fascinated. Hope you enjoy (and are not too grossed out by) my latest insectia treasures found on Etsy.

I would kill to have this piece of art in my home. f2images has mounted a cicada print in the frame of an antique clock. I think it's absolutely beautiful.

Schmutzerland is a family run business with incredible vintage-inspired jewelry. I adore this moth necklace!

The feel of natural history abounds in concentric's pieces. This butterfly wood box, for example. And did you know that the same genius who runs concentric also runs HAREandDRUM?

Polarity has an amazingly creative line of recycled magnetic lockets. This insect collector locket would surely suit my tastes lately!

I love the effect of this ink drawing done on a vintage book page. Check out the rest of momoma's shop for more illustrations too.

Next week, I'll be back with an extra sweet theme for anyone who was disgusted by this week's insects!

I am not a fan of moths at all (ew!!) but I LOVE that moth necklace. I love how aged it looks and like it is ripped out of an old science textbook.

These are all really cool! I did the ink illustration at the bottom, but I am very tempted to buy those other ones!

Awesome website!

I hate flies, but that framed fly print is really appealing! I am going to have to like bugs soon because my 3 yr old son is starting to "bring them home" and ask to keep them.

What awesome picks Robin! Thank you for featuring my clock piece! That's the beauty of all of these items, for those of us who don't like bugs, it gives us a way to connect with them, that is a little less creepy!!

Emi ;)
